Sri Lanka - The No-Confidence Motion brought against Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has been defeated. During the vote, 73 members of Parliament voted in favor of the motion, while 113 members voted against it.

This outcome reflects the culmination of a heated debate and political deliberations within the parliamentary chambers. The No-Confidence Motion, brought by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, garnered substantial attention and discussion both within and outside Parliament.

The defeat of the motion means that Minister Keheliya Rambukwella will continue to serve as the Health Minister. This parliamentary decision carries important implications for the country's healthcare sector and broader political landscape.

The parliamentary debate surrounding the No-Confidence Motion against Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella entered its third consecutive day, underscoring the significance of the motion and the impassioned discussions within the parliamentary chambers.

The motion of no confidence against Minister Rambukwella was initially presented to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena on July 21, with the endorsement of 45 Members of Parliament. It was brought forth by the main opposition party, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), led by its General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara and MP Kavinda Jayawardena.

The motion primarily revolved around allegations of irresponsible importation of substandard medicines and surgical equipment, which the SJB claims has weakened the health sector and led to the unfortunate deaths of several patients undergoing treatment in state hospitals.

The opposition argued that the government continued to introduce low-quality medical supplies without adhering to proper procurement and registration procedures, justifying their actions as a response to a state of emergency.
