A dedicated doctor at Kandy Hospital tragically lost her life while valiantly striving to save the life of a critically ill two-month-old infant. Dr. Fahima Sahabdeen, a 53-year-old mother of two from the Aniwatta area in Kandy, exhibited extraordinary commitment to her profession but, regrettably, succumbed to high blood pressure-related complications.
The doctor, who had been advised to rest due to her elevated blood pressure, felt compelled to respond to the urgent call to attend to the infant residing in the hospital's 4th ward. This selfless act of courage would prove to be her last.
Upon successfully stabilizing the infant's critical condition, Dr. Sahabdeen's own health deteriorated rapidly. She was subsequently admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at Kandy Hospital, with her blood pressure already exceeding 200, according to the hospital's medical team.
Tragically, internal bleeding resulting from a ruptured vein in her head due to extremely high blood pressure claimed Dr. Sahabdeen's life.
