A tragic accident has claimed the life of an assistant lecturer in the Department of International Relations at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Colombo.

The accident occurred in the Wickramasinghapura area of Battaramulla when a lorry collided with 24-year-old lecturer Lakmini Bogamuwa. The young lecturer, a resident of 10th Lane, Wickramasinghapura, Battaramulla, lost her life in the incident.

Reports suggest that the accident took place as Ms. Bogamuwa was crossing the road near the pedestrian crossing, on her way to work from Wickramasinghapura. Tragically, she collided with the front of a lorry traveling from Battaramulla Pelawatta towards Thalawathugoda and fell onto the road.

Expressing their shock and grief, friends and colleagues have taken to social media to remember Ms. Bogamuwa. One poignant post on Facebook reflected on her achievements and the loss felt by those who knew her.

"In 2017, at a graduation ceremony held at Colombo University, everyone was talking about who was the most beautiful girl who won two medals and a scholarship and became the best student in the group. How could you, who are capable of everything, leave us alone like this?"

The University of Colombo community mourns the loss of a dedicated and talented young educator whose life was tragically cut short. Messages of condolence and remembrance continue to pour in as friends, colleagues, and students come to terms with the sudden and untimely passing of Ms. Lakmini Bogamuwa.
