The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued a Heat Index Advisory for 22 February 2024, valid from 02:30 p.m. This advisory warns of an increase in the heat index, which is the temperature felt on the human body, up to the 'Caution' level in certain areas.

Monaragala District

What is the Heat Index?
The Heat Index Forecast is calculated using relative humidity and maximum temperature to indicate the conditions felt on the body. It is not a forecast of the maximum temperature but rather the perceived temperature.

The impact of the heat index on the human body can vary. Here are some guidelines for different situations:

Action Required:
Job Sites: Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade frequently.
Indoors: Check on the elderly and those who are sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended in vehicles.

Dress: Wear lightweight, white, or light-colored clothing to stay cool.
