After a successful T20I series in Sylhet, Sri Lanka shifts its focus to Chattogram for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, commencing this Wednesday. Riding high on their recent victories, Sri Lanka aims to maintain their winning streak against Bangladesh, following impressive wins against Zimbabwe and Afghanistan earlier this year.

The Sri Lankan squad sees the return of fast bowler Lahiru Kumara to the ODI XI, alongside the inclusion of batting all-rounder Kamindu Mendis, as they continue their rebuilding phase post a lackluster World Cup campaign. Notably absent from the squad due to injury is experienced seamer Dushmantha Chameera.

Kumara, displaying promising form in domestic cricket, arrives with a tally of nine wickets in his four recent List A matches. Kamindu Mendis secures his spot in the ODI squad following an impressive showing in the T20Is.

Also making a return is opening batter Pathum Nissanka, having recovered from a hamstring injury, and off-spinning all-rounder Sahan Arachchige, who has showcased his prowess with the bat in the domestic season. However, Test captain Dhananjaya de Silva remains omitted from the ODI squad, while Kamindu Mendis replaces Shevon Daniel in the lineup.

The Sri Lankan bowling attack boasts several seam options, with Kumara leading the experienced charge. The squad includes Pramod Madushan, left-armer Dilshan Madushanka, as well as all-rounders Chamika Karunaratne and Janith Liyanage. Notably, the team will miss the services of Matheesha Pathirana and Nuwan Thushara, despite the latter's stellar performance in the third T20I against Bangladesh.

In the spin department, Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana are expected to feature prominently in the XI, with Akila Dananjaya and left-arm spinning all-rounder Dunith Wellalage providing additional options.

Having secured victories in both their ODI series against Zimbabwe and Afghanistan earlier this year, Sri Lanka is poised for their first overseas series in 2024. The stage is set for an exciting clash as the first of the three ODIs unfolds in Chattogram on Wednesday.
