In a stunning display of batting prowess, Sri Lanka's Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis have turned into a nightmare for Bangladesh in the ongoing Test series. Following their remarkable partnership of 202 runs in the first innings, the duo replicated their brilliance with another outstanding partnership of 173 runs in the second innings.

Both batsmen achieved the rare feat of scoring centuries in both innings, showcasing their exceptional form on the field. Sri Lanka's second innings culminated at 418 runs, setting a daunting target of 511 runs for Bangladesh in the Sylhet Test.

Bangladesh faces a monumental challenge, with the record of the highest successful run chase in Test cricket not far from their minds. The West Indies hold the record for the highest run chase of 418 runs, achieved against Australia in the Antigua Test back in 2003.

Initially, Sri Lanka, having secured a lead of 92 runs in the first innings, appeared poised for a quick conclusion in the second innings. However, the partnership between Dhananjaya and Mendis quickly changed the game's course. Their stellar performance echoed the brilliance of their first innings, leaving Bangladesh struggling to regain control of the match.

As the third day unfolded, the partnership between the two batsmen only strengthened, putting Bangladesh's hopes of victory in jeopardy. Despite a valiant effort from Mehedi Miraj to dismiss Dhananjaya for 108 runs, Mendis continued to dominate, forming crucial partnerships with Prabath Jayasuriya and later with the last batsman, Kasun Rajitha.

The Sri Lankan innings finally concluded at 418 runs, with Mendis showcasing an unstoppable form until the very end. Bangladesh now faces the daunting task of chasing down 511 runs in the remaining two days of the Test match. The pressure is on for the hosts as they strive to counter the formidable batting display of Sri Lanka's dynamic duo.
