Punjab Kings 262 for 2 (Bairstow 108*, Shashank 68*, Prabhsimran 54, Narine 1-24) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 261 for 6 (Salt 75, Narine 71, Arshdeep 2-45) by eight wickets

In an unbelievably ruthless display of batting, Punjab Kings hunted down 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders to record the highest successful chase in all of T20 history, and got there with eight balls to spare. They hit 24 sixes, six more than what KKR managed, and the two teams together set the record for the most sixes in any T20 game.

Led by Jonny Bairstow's incredible hundred, Punjab Kings set a new world record for the highest run chase in the history of T20 cricket. PBKS bettered South Africa's 259/4 against West Indies in March last year. In the IPL, Rajasthan Royals held the previous record for chasing down 224 against KKR at Eden Gardens recently, equalling the record they had set against then Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2020 in Sharjah

Punjab Kings also broke the record for most sixes in an IPL innings. The PBKS batters smashed 24 sixes during the 262-run chase; of these, Prabhsimran Singh hit 5, Jonny Bairstow smashed 9, Rilee Russouw cleared the ropes twice, while Shashank Singh, who remained unbeaten on 68, hit 8.

Here's the list of most sixes in an IPL innings:

22 - SRH vs DC, Delhi, 2024

The match between KKR and PBKS saw an aggregate total of 523 runs being scored, which is the third-highest in an IPL match. Interestingly, the top two aggregate scores also came in the ongoing season.

Here's the detailed list:

549 - RCB vs SRH, Bengaluru, 2024
523 - SRH vs MI, Hyderabad, 2024
523 - KKR vs PBKS, Kolkata, 2024
469 - CSK vs RR, Chennai, 2010
465 - DC vs SRH, Delhi, 2024

The high-scoring run fest featured the highest number of maximums in the history of T20 cricket.

PBKS and KKR struck 42 maximums, surpassing the previous joint-record of 38, which was created during Sunrisers Hyderabad's clash against Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore's match against SRH.

In the process, Jonny Bairstow roared back to form to smack his second IPL hundred. Shashank Singh, one of PBKS' finds of the season, clubbed 68* from only 28 balls, eight of which disappeared over the boundary. Amid all that, Sunil Narine stood apart with figures of 4-0-24-1 for KKR.

That came after he continued his dream season with the bat, pummeling 71 off 32 deliveries in an opening partnership of 138 in 10.2 overs. Phil Salt, Narine's opening partner, also rode on his form - and some luck - to rush to 75 from 37. But all of that went in vain.

With the win, Punjab Kings gained a spot in the points table to move to the 8th spot with three wins in nine games. Meanwhile, PBKS' rise saw Mumbai Indians slip to the ninth position with 6 points after playing eight matches. The rest of the points table remained unchanged.
