Sri Lanka emerged triumphant in the Asian Rugby Division 1 Championship final, securing a resounding 45-7 victory over Kazakhstan at the Racecourse Stadium in Colombo.

This significant win propels Sri Lanka to the next level of the Asian Rugby competition, marking a milestone achievement for the island nation. It also marks Sri Lanka's first test rugby final victory since its suspension from the sport a few years ago.

The final match of the Asia Rugby Division 1 Championship 2024 took place at the Racecourse Stadium in Colombo today Saturday, May 4th, with kickoff at 7:00 p.m.

Originally, this year's Asia Rugby Men’s Division 1 was slated to feature Sri Lanka, Qatar, and Pakistan. However, Pakistan's withdrawal from the competition led to a revised format. Similarly, the Asia Rugby Men’s Division 2 saw only two teams, Kazakhstan and India, available to compete after Iran's withdrawal.

In response to the situation, Asia Rugby made adjustments to ensure participation opportunities for interested unions in Rugby fifteens in 2024. Kazakhstan and India were included in the Asia Rugby Men’s Division 1, leading to the absence of a Division 2 competition for this year.
