A Bangladeshi national holding British citizenship, who also owns a team in the Lanka Premier League (LPL), was arrested today at Bandaranaike International Airport. The arrest was carried out by the Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Offenses Relating to Sports at the Sports Ministry.

The arrest follows allegations of match-fixing, though it remains unclear if the charges pertain specifically to activities within the LPL or involve other tournaments. This development comes on the heels of the International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption team attending the LPL auction in Colombo yesterday.

The detained team owner is expected to be presented before a magistrate's court later today. Further details about the specific charges and the scope of the investigation are anticipated as the case unfolds.
