Minister Rajitha to Cultivate Ganja in Sri Lanka

Thursday, 12 May 2016 - 8:52

Minister of Health Rajitha Senarathne says that measures will be taken to grow cannabis in Sri Lanka in a protected mechanism and export the excess to Western hemisphere.

The minister unveiled news that Sri Lanka had received a suggestion to grow and export Ganja to Western medical industry.

He further said that it is the high time for Sri Lankans to be free from Islander mentality and fuse latest technology in generational medical treatments.

‘There was an opium shortage to produce some indigenous medicines in recent past. Sri Lanka imported opium from India to tally demand and supply. That’s why I suggest Sri Lanka to weaken laws and allow growing cannabis under certain regulation that builds a protected environment’.

Health Minister noted that indigenous medicine has cures for some diseases that do not have treatments in western medicine.
