Special luxury train launched celebrating 100 years of Colombo - Badulla line

This morning (05), the inaugural journey of the special luxury tourist train, 'Dunhinda Odyssey', marked the centenary of train services on the Colombo - Badulla line. The grand event commenced at the Colombo Fort railway station at 6:30 a.m., with the presence of Minister of Transport and Highways, Bandula Gunawardena.

The 'Dunhinda Odyssey' train, the latest addition to Sri Lanka Railways' 'Odyssey' train series, is designed to enhance the travel experience for tourists. Following the launch of 'Ella Odyssey' and 'Seethawaka Odyssey' in previous years, 'Dunhinda Odyssey' promises a unique and memorable journey through picturesque landscapes.

The train is set to offer dedicated passenger transportation services, providing an exquisite travel experience for its passengers. The fare structure for the 'Dunhinda Odyssey' is as follows:

First Class Ticket: Rs. 8,000
Second Class Ticket: Rs. 6,000
Third Class Ticket: Rs. 5,000

The journey from Colombo Fort to Badulla/Ella will be scheduled as follows:

Departure from Colombo Fort to Badulla: Every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday at 6:30 a.m.
Departure from Badulla to Colombo Fort: Every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 8:00 a.m.

During the journey, the 'Dunhinda Odyssey' will make stops at various tourist attractions and scenic viewpoints along the route. Passengers will have the opportunity to marvel at the beauty of Horsetail Falls, the iconic Adam’s Peak (Sri Pada), St. Clair’s Falls, Elgin Falls, Summit Level, Tunnel No. 18 (Pattipola Tunnel), Idalgashinna Wind Gap, Kithal Ella Falls, the renowned Nine Arch Bridge, and the captivating Demodara Loop.

The train is designed to provide optimal comfort and luxury for passengers, featuring:

Four First Class cabins
Three Second Class cabins
One Third Class cabin
Onboard canteen for dining convenience

With its scenic route and luxurious amenities, the 'Dunhinda Odyssey' promises an unforgettable journey for tourists and travelers alike.
