Yaldevi train resumes journey to Jaffna after 10 months

The Yaldevi train resumed service to Jaffna-Kankesanthurai this morning after a 10-month break due to maintenance work on the Mahawa to Anuradhapura section of the Northern Railway.

The railway department has urged caution for those using railway crossings as the northern route is now operational with daily services. Following a renovation costing 300 million rupees, the upgraded Northern Railway trains can now reach speeds of 100 km/h.

The Yaldevi train departed from Colombo Fort’s 4th platform at 5:45 am and arrived at Mahawa station by 9:30 am. A daily train service from Kankesanthurai to Colombo Fort is scheduled at 10:30 am, reaching Colombo Fort by 6:30 pm.

The reopening of the Northern Railway has also led to revised schedules for trains operating between Colombo Fort and Trincomalee, as well as Colombo Fort and Batticaloa, to accommodate the increased connectivity on the route.
