The Sabaragamuwa Zonal Education Office launched a special investigation into the incident where a private candidate sitting for the GCE ordinary level in Balangoda had used a mobile phone to obtain answers during the examination.
The student, who was arrested in connection with the incident, had arrived 20 minutes late, to the examination centre located at Jeilaan Central College.
Upon finding the manner in which the student answered the English paper suspicious, the head of the examination centre, had discovered that a mobile phone was being used to supply the answers for the question paper.
Subsequently, the head of the examination centre lodged a complaint regarding the incident at the Balangoda Police, after which, the said student was arrested.
It was revealed that the answers were supplied through SMS by a teacher, who was stationed as the invigilator at the Balangoda, Kanagaraayagama Central College examination centre.
Subsequently, the 31 year old teacher was also arrested by the police.
The police, meanwhile stated that the student, who is 20 years of age, had been sitting for the GCE ordinary level English paper for the fourth consecutive time.
Subsequently, the Balangoda magistrate ordered to release the suspect on bail.
