Luxury car brought down to Sri Lanka amid vehicle import ban? (Photos)

The latest Toyota Land Cruiser 300 car was brought to Sri Lanka from the Hambantota port this morning (10).

As soon as the car, valued at nearly Rs. 15 million, arrived at the Hambantota port premises, everyone's attention was drawn to how the car arrived in the country against the backdrop of strict restrictions on vehicle imports.

This type of car is valued at close to Rs. 80 million when ordinary duties and other related taxes are added.

As soon as we came across this series of photographs that were widely circulated on social media, we decided to take a deeper look at it, recalling the severe collapse of the Sri Lankan economy yesterday (09).

Inquiries raised to the Hambantota Port and the Sri Lanka Customs in this regard answered the question that had puzzled all of us.

Accordingly, this latest Toyota Land Cruiser 300 has been imported to the US Embassy under embassy privileges.

There are no restrictions on the importation of new vehicles to embassies.

It is also a special embassy privilege that vehicles imported to embassies are not taxed above Rs. 65 million.
