Minimum daily wage for plantation workers - agreement reached

An agreement was reached today (10) in the Wages Board to set a daily minimum wage of Rs. 1,350 for plantation workers, along with an additional Rs. 50 for every extra kilogram of tea leaves picked.

The discussion included State Minister of Labour, MP Vadivel Suresh, estate owners, and plantation trade unions. The Labour Commissioner will issue a gazette notification to implement the decision effective immediately.

MP Suresh further stated that the workers should not be overburdened.

“That means Rs. 1,350 without EPF and ETF.

MP Vadivel Suresh stated that workers will earn Rs. 1,552 per day, including EPF and ETF, if they return to work.

He emphasized that while workers should not be overburdened, they can earn more if they work beyond the basic wage.
