Five old two-storied buildings on Janapriya Mawatha in the Panadura area collapsed this afternoon (30) while drainage work was being carried out nearby using a backhoe machine.
Local residents believe vibrations from the backhoe may have contributed to the buildings' collapse. Among the damaged structures were a dental surgery, a textile shop, and other businesses, two of which were open at the time.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
