A severed human head was discovered near a riverbank in Cooray Place, Upper Indibedda, Moratumulla, according to the police.
Police stated that the head was located following a tip-off received via the 119 Police Emergency Hotline.
It was found near the riverbank behind a local carpentry workshop.
The head was severely decomposed and appeared to have been scavenged by animals. Officers from the Mount Lavinia Crime Scene Bureau, alongside a team from the Police Special Task Force, inspected the location.
The head section is currently placed at the Panadura Hospital, and further investigations are underway.
