UPFA Eastern Provincial Councilor W. D. Weerasinghe stated that they will take a decisive political decision, if the new Chief Minister and the SLMC would not take measures within 72 hours to resolve the crisis which occurred due to the delay in appointing provincial ministers.
The councilor accuses that, despite 13 days have passed since the appointment of the new Eastern Provincial Council Chief Minister, he has not taken steps to name any ministers for the council thus far.
Therefore, he added that people of the province are facing great difficulties.
Following the latest Presidential election, the Chief Ministerial portfolio of the Eastern Provincial council changed.
Therefore, instead of UPFA representative Najeed A. Majeed, Muslim Congress representative Nazeer Ahamed was appointed as the Chief Minister on the 6th of this month.
Later, SLMC leader Minister Rauf Hakeem invited the TNA and the UNP to join hands and create a national government within the Eastern Provincial Council.
Accordingly, TNA MP T. Ariyanendran stated that his party has decided to accept two Ministerial portfolios and the post of Deputy Chairman in the provincial council.
TNA councilor W.D. Weerasinghe stated that he and 20 councilors submitted their affidavits to appoint the new Chief Minister, after SLMC agreed not to make any changes to other ministries.
He also stated that his team was against offering ministerial portfolios to the TNA.

He responded saying that they will take measures in the next few days to appoint the new ministers based on the recommendations made by the party leaders.
