The Department of Archeology has begun an investigation with police into an incident where an ancient dagaba (stupa) had been bulldozed in Sampur.
The dagaba is reportedly belonging to the first era of Anuradhapura and it was unearthed following extensive work of the experts of the Department of Archeology.
However, an unknown group had bulldozed the site on Monday (18).
The Assistant Director of Archeology in Trincomalee, W. H. A. Sumanadasa said police security has been given to the site following the incident.
