Jupiter - Saturn conjunction on 21 Dec (Video)

Space and Astronomy Unit of Colombo University Prof. Chandana Jayaratne, people around the world will be able to witness a meteor shower.

Named 'The Geminids', the meteor shower will be visible from the constellation 'Gemini' and is known as the 'best meteor shower of the year'

Media reports that around 120 meteors on average will be visible an hour in this meteor display of the year.

Prof. Jayaratne stated that the meteor shower will be better visible tonight and tomorrow morning and will be more visible to the naked eye.

Meanwhile, Prof. Chandana Jayaratne said that the people of the world will have the opportunity to see a conjuction of Jupiter and Saturn, the two largest planets in the Solar System, on 21 December.

This planetary conjunction, a very rare event, last occurred in It was July 16, 1623 AD.

Scientists predict that this rare opportunity will arise again in 2080
