Agreement signed to digitize judiciary system

The agreement to digitize the entire judiciary was signed with the participation of the Ministry of Justice, the Judicial Service Commission, the Ministry of Technology and the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka.

Under this project, the entire judicial system of the country will be digitized.

It is planned to digitize the entire judicial process, including the maintenance of files in the judiciary, the management of the judiciary, the keeping and issuance of case records, and the payment of fines online. Although some aspects of the judiciary were computerized in the past, this is to implement a comprehensive new program to digitize the entire judicial system in the country.

The ICTA will oversee the design, implementation and follow-up of the digitization process. This project will bring many benefits including streamlining, expediting, transparency and minimizing court proceedings.

Judicial proceedings will also be notified to the relevant parties through SMS. The Ministry of Justice stated that the quality of the judiciary will also improve due to the favorable conditions available to lawyers, law firms, the government and other relevant parties.

Studies and planning for the project are expected to begin in March. Local suppliers will be given priority and the initial funding will be provided by the General Treasury.
