The Disaster Management Center states that 42,252 persons belonging to 11,074 families have been affected by the adverse weather conditions.

According to the latest data from the Disaster Management Center, the Gampaha District has the highest number of people affected by the adverse weather and prevailing winds with 29,603 affected.

Also 6620 persons in Colombo District, 2994 persons in Galle District, 1035 persons in Matara District and 1132 persons in Kegalle District are affected.

Meanwhile, due to the adverse weather conditions around 150,000 electricity consumers have been affected.

The Ministry of Power and Energy stated that the number of incidents reported in this regard is around 22,000.

Most of the incidents have been reported from Matara, Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Chilaw and Kurunegala districts.

They are currently being restored according to the ministry spokesman Sulakshana Jayawardena.

Also, due to the overflowing of the Kelani River, nearly 100 houses in the Seethawaka Divisional Secretariat Division have been inundated while areas such as Hanwella, Seewaliwatta, Jayaweeragoda and Walawwatta remain inundated.

Meanwhile, engineers in charge of the Castlereagh and Maussakelle reservoirs said that the water level in the reservoirs were rising due to heavy rains in the western slopes of the central hills.

The Meteorological Department said that rainy weather is expected in the next few days as well.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Several spells of showers will occur Northern and Northcentral provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night.

Fairly heavy falls about 75 mm can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa province and in Kaluthara, Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya and Kandy districts.

Wind speed can increase up to (40-50) kmph at times over the island. Wind speed can gusting up to (50-60) kmph particularly in Western slope of the Central hills, Northern, North central and North-western provinces and in Hambantota district.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
