Professor Malik Peiris, who has been researching the SARS virus that causes the coronavirus epidemic, and Professor Kamini Mendis, a World Health Organization consultant, have called for the country to be placed under lockdown for 14 days immediately.
This is considering the rapid spread of the virus in Sri Lanka.
Presenting a lengthy report after a scientific study, Prof. Malik Peiris and Prof. Kamani Mendis stated that intermittent travel restrictions, provincial travel restrictions, the isolation of Grama Niladhari Divisions or the travel limitations based on the ID number would not address the severity of the crisis.
State Minister Sudarshani Fernandopulle today stated that her opinion as a community medicine specialist is to subject the country to a two week lockdown.
