The price of vegetables in the market has risen significantly. During an inquiry by Hiru News, it was revealed that the wholesale price of one kilogram of some vegetables stands at Rs 250 and Rs 200. In retail, the price of 250 grams of vegetables stands at Rs 80 and Rs 90.
The price of rice has also recorded a significant rise. Accordingly, One kilogram of Nadu rice, which was sold at a price of Rs 98, is now being priced between Rs 120 and 125 in retail.
The price of white and red Kekulu rice which maintained a price between Rs 84 and Rs 85 is now priced between Rs 100 and Rs 115. One kilogram of Samba rice is being sold between Rs 155 and Rs 160, with the one kilogram of Keeri Samba is priced at Rs 215 to Rs 220.
Meanwhile, Agriculture State Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa stated that the dedicated economic centres will remain open today (17) and tomorrow (18). He noted that wholesale traders and mobile vendors will be allowed to visit the centres to purchase the required stocks of produce.
Treasurer of the Manning Market and All Ceylon Dedicated Economic Centers Association Nimal Attanayake added that the Manning Market is highly congested.
