The Ceylon Rice Growers' Association stated that the Government should bring a control price for rice, as a kilogram of rice could increase by another Rs. 25 in the future.
Meanwhile, Lands Minister S.M. Chandrasena requested the farmers to go down to the paddy fields and join in the cultivation activities without falling prey to provocations.
The price of rice in the market is currently at an unbearable level for the public.
The price of a kilogram of all types of rice has exceeded Rs. 100 and in such a situation the price of rice could go up further in the future, stated the President of the Ceylon Rice Growers Association Suraj Jayawickrama convening a media briefing in Polonnaruwa yesterday (17).
