Veteran actor G.R. Perera Passes Away at 83

Renowned actor G.R. Perera, who had a career spanning over five decades in Sri Lankan cinema, theatre, and television, has passed away at the age of 83.

G.R. Perera, born on 13 November 1939, acted in more than 600 television serials and six foreign films. He started his film career with the 1971 film 'Welikathara', and his first major role was in 'Kalu Diya Dahara' directed by Manik Sandarasagara.

G.R. Perera's talent shone in his television career, and his role "Malakada Bass" in the serial 'Doo Daruwo' was a turning point in his teledrama career. He won the award for acting in the most number of teledramas at Raigam Tele'es and won a critics award for his role in the movie 'Karumakkarayo' in 1980. In 2007, he won the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the teleplay 'Chakrayudaya'.

G.R. Perera's contribution to Sri Lankan cinema, theatre, and television was invaluable, and his passing is a great loss to the industry. He had been ill for a long period and passed away at his home, according to family sources.
