Hanguranketha's Janaka Kanchana Mudannayake achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new Guinness World Record. He managed to break 26 concrete cubes, each weighing 22 kg, within a minute while being held on the hands, using a traditional Sledge hammer on the 28th of this month.
These concrete cubes, when intact, measured 40 cm in length, 20 mm in width, and 05 cm in height. Janaka, who is employed at the Sri Lanka Port Authority, has previously secured an impressive seven Guinness records. His ultimate ambition is to reach a total of 18 Guinness records.
Among his past achievements are carrying 20 bags of 50 kg wheat flour each for a 30-meter distance using his teeth, bending 22 steel wires of 12 meters each with his head in a mere 48 seconds, dropping 50 blocks of 50 kg ice from a 20-foot height in 36 minutes, driving 32, 1 1/2 ton vehicles over his fingers, bending 18, 12mm steel wires with his teeth within a minute, breaking 35 concrete cubes in 54 seconds while lying on a plank, and even placing and breaking 30 concrete blocks, each weighing 107 kg, on his stomach with a Sledge hammer in 5 minutes and 45 seconds.
Janaka Kanchana Mudannayake has expressed his desire to pursue an additional 10 Guinness records in the future, which include tasks like pulling an airplane, a ship, and a train.
His father Gamini Wasantha held four Guinness World Records before passing away.
The engineering department of the Kandy Municipality oversaw the preparation of the concrete blocks used to establish this new Guinness World Record. The Central Provincial DIG Mahinda Dissanayake supervised the record-setting event, and the achievement has been officially recognized by the Guinness Committee after being included in the Guinness Book of Records.
State Minister Dilum Amunugama, Guinness Committee Sri Lanka Coordinator Indika Jayalath, Central Provincial School Sports Director Atula Jayawardena, and others were present to witness this extraordinary accomplishment.
