Prominent TikTok Star arrested over alleged sexual assault

SBS in Korea reports that a TikTok star WonJeong’ aka ‘Mama Boy Ox Zung in his 20s had been arrested for the sexual assault of an intoxicated woman, with another man also allegedly involved in the incident.

As well as being a popular influencer online, Joeng has also appeared in Korean-language TV shows.

It is alleged that the incident took place in July, and his arrest is the reason behind his sudden absence from social media since then. His last upload was on July 22, 2023.

Joeng, who goes by Ox Zung on his social accounts, and is often called ‘Mama Boy’ for his repeated use of the word mama in his videos, has over 10 million YouTube subscribers, and 55 million followers on TikTok. He is the 17th most-followed TikToker in the world.

From Stardom to Scandal
Joeng rose to fame when he started uploading videos on TikTok in 2020. His unique content and persona garnered him significant popularity, enabling him to expand his influence onto the YouTube platform where he amassed over 10 million subscribers. He also made appearances on various TV variety programs solidifying his celebrity status. However, with the surfacing of the sexual assault allegations, Joeng abruptly ceased his activity on both YouTube and TikTok.

The Night of the Incident
The alleged victim, identified as ‘B’ in the media, reported that after drinking together, she was taken to a friend’s house where she was sexually assaulted by Joeng and another man. She claimed to have awoken to the sound of a video being recorded during the assault. The police, however, found no evidence of illegal recording during their investigation.

Arrest and Charges
Joeng along with his accomplice were arrested on December 12 and were officially charged with rape on December 15. Despite Joeng’s assertion that the sexual activity was consensual, the charges stand. Their first court hearing is set for January 17.
