Dr. Saman Ratnayake granted permission by court to make voluntary confession

Dr. Saman Ratnayake, the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health, who was arrested and remanded in custody by the Criminal Investigation Department, has been allowed by the court to make a confession of his own volition. This decision was made in response to a request by his legal representatives.

Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama granted permission for Dr. Ratnayake to make his statement on the 4th of this month.

Dr. Ratnayake was taken into custody on charges related to alleged financial losses to the government. Additionally, he is accused of endangering the lives of patients by importing questionable batches of immunoglobulin injections into Sri Lanka.

The arrest of the Additional Secretary occurred last night following investigations by the Criminal Investigation Department.

Presently, former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, former ministry secretary Janaka Sri Chandragupta, and seven others remain in custody until the 14th, as part of the ongoing probe.
