Former Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga revealed that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has granted him permission to bring tourists to Mattala Airport upon his request. He made this statement during a press conference held in Colombo today.
Meanwhile, the number of foreign tourists arriving in Sri Lanka in 2024 has surpassed 1.9 million. India leads as the top source with 383,257 visitors, followed by Russia with 180,414, and the United Kingdom with 166,999.
In a related development, a SkyUp flight carrying 176 passengers from Estonia landed at Mattala Airport. Five weekly flights are now scheduled to operate from Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Moldova to Mattala Airport.
