Sri Lanka can generate $5 billion annually from digital exports alone by 2030, according to Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, Principal Presidential Advisor on the Digital Economy.
Speaking at the launch of the Sri Lanka Digital Common Infrastructure Summit yesterday (05), he stated that embracing full digitalization could boost the country’s annual growth rate (CAGR) by 1-2%, potentially doubling GDP within this range.
He further noted that increasing the digital workforce to 20% could raise annual digital export revenue to $15 billion.
Highlighting the government's commitment, he pointed out the establishment of the Ministry of Digital Economy under the President’s direct supervision. He emphasized that digital transformation aims to accelerate economic growth, enhance citizen and business services, and reduce socio-economic disparities, with Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) being a crucial milestone in this strategy.
