Island-wide power outage linked to Panadura substation incident

Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody stated that the island-wide power outage was caused by a monkey crashing into the Panadura grid substation. However, the Ministry of Power and Energy later referred to the incident as an "emergency at the Panadura substation" without confirming the minister’s claim.

Restoration efforts are underway, with teams working to restore power as soon as possible.
