A Russian tourist has died after falling off the Podi Menike train while reportedly attempting to take a selfie. The incident occurred this morning (19) near the Amunuwelpitiya 180/25 post, close to the Badulla tunnel.
The tourist was part of a group of 12 foreigners who had arrived in Sri Lanka and were traveling from Badulla to Ella by train. Investigations revealed that the victim had been hanging out of the train to take a selfie when she collided with an earth embankment near the railway track.
Following the accident, the injured woman was transported onboard the same train and handed over to the Hali-Ela Railway Station.
