Police operations conducted yesterday (25) under a special initiative to apprehend individuals involved in drugs and crime resulted in numerous arrests.
The Ministry of Public Security announced that 17 individuals directly linked to serious crimes were arrested.
Additionally, 408 wanted individuals for various offences were taken into custody.
During these operations, police screened 24,281 people, 10,175 vehicles, and 7,240 motorcycles.
The Ministry further reported that 1,455 individuals were arrested for drug-related offences during the same period.
In a separate operation in the Vadamarachchi area of Jaffna, a suspect was arrested with over 60 kilograms of Kerala Cannabis, valued at approximately 12 million rupees.
This illegal consignment was being transported when intercepted.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Police Special Task Force and the police, acting on intelligence received from Army intelligence.
