Police Constable remanded over assault on lawyer in Mount Lavinia court premises

A Police Constable has been arrested and remanded until October 13, on a charge of assaulting a lawyer within the premises of the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.

The incident reportedly occurred due to an argument between the lawyer and the police officer over a vehicle obstruction.

The altercation began when a prison bus was unable to exit the court premises because it was blocked by the motor car belonging to the lawyer.

A verbal dispute erupted between the lawyer and the police constable responsible for the bus's movement.

The confrontation escalated, leading to the police constable allegedly assaulting the lawyer.

The lawyer subsequently filed a complaint with the Mount Lavinia Police regarding the incident.

Following the complaint, Mount Lavinia Police recorded statements from several civilians who were present on the court premises.

The police constable was then arrested and produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court, which ordered his remand custody until October 13.
