The completely renovated "Institute of Neurology" at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL), which cost 99 million rupees, is scheduled to open for the public tomorrow (01) with the aim of making neurological treatment services in Sri Lanka extremely broad and efficient. The Ministry of Health notes this.
The ministry said that this opening ceremony is scheduled to be held tomorrow (01) at 10.00 am at the premises under the patronage of Health and Media Minister Doctor Nalinda Jayatissa and with the participation of Health Deputy Minister Doctor Hansaka Wijemunne.
The ministry mentioned that this renovation project will help to make neurological treatment services, which diagnose and treat diseases associated with the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscular system, more efficient.
In parallel with this opening, arrangements are also in place for the Minister of Health and Media to unveil the photograph of the founder of the Institute of Neurology, Deshamanya Vidya Jyothi Doctor J.B. Peiris.
Under this project, the ward complex number 62/63 of the Institute of Neurology is also scheduled to officially open, and it notes that this unit consists of two male and female wards with 22 patient beds per ward.
The Ministry of Health allocated a sum of 52 million rupees for the modernisation activities of this ward complex.
In addition, a sum of 22 million rupees was provided to renovate the physiotherapy unit located on the ground floor of the building, and it reports that a sum of 25 million rupees was provided for the modernisation activities of the speech and occupational therapy units and the auditorium on the third floor.
Following the opening of this new ward complex, the full capability will arise to maintain neurology units 3 and 4, which are currently maintained in a building over one hundred years old at ward number 16, with more facilities, without congestion, and with the necessary comfort for patients and staff, the Ministry of Health mentions by issuing a statement.
The Ministry of Health also says that many guests in the health sector including Ministry of Health and Media Secretary Specialist Doctor Anil Jasinghe and Additional Secretary Doctor Kumar Wickramasinghe are scheduled to join this occasion.
