US military drops Indo-Pacific label, returns to Pacific Command

The United States Department of War announced the official restoration of the United States Pacific Command designation, retiring the United States Indo-Pacific Command name utilized in recent years. This administrative shift marks a direct return to the historic identity of the oldest and largest unified combatant command in America, originally established by former United States President Harry S. Truman on the 1st of January 1947.

Defense officials emphasized that while the title change honors deep historical roots and long-standing legacy in the region, the core mission, strategic objectives, and vast area of responsibility extending from the American west coast to the western border of India remain completely unchanged.
