A section of a building within the Colombo District Court premises collapsed on the night of the 29th, prompting authorities to suspend court activities today (31) amid concerns over the structural safety of the building.
Secretary of the Colombo Bar Association, Lahiru Welgama, stated that vehicles will not be permitted to enter the court premises today due to the potential risk.
He also confirmed that court proceedings will not be conducted today, while the Bar Association strongly advised the public and legal professionals not to enter the affected building as it could become further unstable.
All court hearings scheduled for today will instead be called on 30 September 2026.
Meanwhile, parties requiring extensions of enjoining orders may submit requests to the Registrar for necessary action.
The Colombo Bar Association stated that judges will provide further information regarding development work at the premises and arrangements for the resumption of court operations.
