Further trial proceedings for the case filed by the Bribery Commission against former minister Wimal Weerawansa over the alleged unlawful acquisition of assets exceeding Rs. 75 million beyond his legal income were fixed for the 22nd by the Colombo High Court today (3).
The case was called before Colombo High Court Judge Mohamed Mihail, who ordered prosecution witnesses numbered 21, 22, 25, and 38 to appear in court for the trial.
Notices were also ordered to be issued to all witnesses of the prosecution to ensure their presence on that day.
Additional Solicitor General Azard Navavi appeared on behalf of the Bribery Commission.
The Bribery Commission filed this case during the previous good governance administration, accusing former minister Wimal Weerawansa of committing an offence under the Bribery Act by acquiring assets exceeding Rs. 75 million beyond his lawful income between 2010 and 2014.
