Former Minister Johnston Fernando and another granted bail

Former Minister Johnston Fernando and private company owner Hemantha Lalith de Silva have been released on bail by the Colombo Magistrate's Court.

The Court released both suspects on two surety bails of Rs. 2.5 million each and imposed overseas travel bans on both individuals.

The Bribery Commission arrested and produced the duo before the court on allegations of committing and aiding corruption, causing a Rs. 7.9-million loss to the state.

The case involves the alleged procurement of chairs for the Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre in Polgolla from a Private company, despite another company submitting the lowest bid.
