Masterminds behind Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia crimes identified

Masterminds committing crimes in Dehiwala - Mount Lavinia and surrounding areas are currently identified, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Western Province Sanjeewa Medawatte says.

Speaking to the media following a programme held in the Moratuwa area today (11), he stated that measures are being taken to quickly bring back to the island those groups who have currently fled to foreign countries.

Yesterday early morning, a hand grenade attack was launched on a house in the Sirisangabo Road area in Kawdana, Dehiwala, where two students died inside the house itself.

Their father sustained injuries to his legs in the attack.

Initial investigations revealed the injured person’s brother is connected to the drug network of an individual named Badowita Asanka.

Accordingly, police suspect this hand grenade attack may have been carried out on the instructions of an alleged organised criminal and drug trafficker named Kos Malli.

Facts revealed the grenade was planned to be targeted at the house of the individual connected to the racket, but because that house had been changed, the hand grenade attack was launched on the nearby house of his brother.

Reports also state the injured individual has no criminal charges against him.
