Railway unions expand support for impending 48-hour strike

The Joint Railway Trade Union Alliance has announced that the Railway Technical and Operations Service Union has extended its support to the alliance's impending 48-hour strike action.

Accordingly, assistant drivers, shunting drivers, and yard workers have joined forces to back the trade union campaign. The 48-hour strike is set to commence midnight tonight in protest of the administrative conduct of the General Manager of Railways.

It was previously reported that 26 trade unions, including engine drivers, controllers, and station masters, are scheduled to participate in the strike. The industrial action comes against the backdrop of a letter sent by Ministry of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development Secretary Asiri Karunawardhana to suspend a disciplinary letter issued by railway administration against Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters' Union General Secretary Kasun Chamara Jayasekera.
