Creating a major uplift in the local tourism landscape, Sun Siyam Pasikudah has introduced several unique, trendsetting initiatives to the hotel circuit, further reinforcing its position as a pioneering luxury hotelier in Sri Lanka.
For the first time in the local hotel industry, Sun Siyam Pasikudah has introduced a live webcam (https://www.youtube.com/live/L0I0vA2XjXw) to provide real-time weather updates, setting a new benchmark in guest convenience and digital innovation.
The mentor behind this initiative, General Manager Arshed Refai, said this will allow anyone planning to visit Pasikudah to gain advance, real-time weather familiarisation prior to their visit. “This live webcam is accessible from anywhere in the world,” he noted, highlighting the hotel’s forward-thinking approach to guest experience.
The hotel has also pioneered another first in the local tourism sector with a floating platform at sea. Branded as Aqua Lounge and positioned along the hotel’s seafront, the extension can accommodate around 15 guests, offering a truly unique dining and leisure experience.
“This is now turning out to be a much sought-after dining experience by both local and foreign guests, as well as non-resident guests,” Refai added.
Sun Siyam Pasikudah is a luxurious 5-star boutique resort on Sri Lanka’s eastern coast, offering 34 spacious beach and garden pavilions, some with private pools. Renovated in 2023, the resort features an infinity pool, an Ayurvedic spa, and easy access to snorkeling. It is highly family-friendly and popular for its calm beach, local cuisine, and eco-friendly practices.
One of the other distinctive features the hotel has introduced is the largest wine cellar in the region. “We have now enhanced this with additional stock, and today we house 2,445 bottles,” he said, further underscoring the hotel’s commitment to premium offerings and exceptional guest experiences.
Sun Siyam Pasikudah, part of Sun Siyam Resorts’ Privé Collection, has won the coveted Best Global Hotel Design award at the Homes & Gardens Design Awards 2025.
The hotel is owned and operated by Dr. Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, Managing Director of Sun Siyam Group of Maldives, which now has five hotels in the Maldives.
