The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Viet Nam, in collaboration with VJSC Co., Ltd., successfully co hosted a tourism promotion event titled “Unlocking Sri Lanka's Tourism Potential” in Ho Chi Minh City on 08 June 2026. The event aimed to position Sri Lanka as a premier travel destination for Vietnamese tourists and strengthen tourism cooperation between Sri Lanka and Viet Nam.
The timing of the event was significant as both VietJet Air and Vietnam Airlines are preparing to launch direct air services on the Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo route. VietJet Air is scheduled to commence operations on 18 August 2026, while Vietnam Airlines is expected to begin direct flights later in the year.
The programme was co organised by Vietnam Japan Services and Commerce Co., Ltd. (VJSC), a Vietnamese company specialising in outbound travel and destination marketing.
The event began with a traditional Sri Lankan oil lamp lighting ceremony. Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Viet Nam Poshitha Perera delivered a keynote presentation highlighting the country’s cultural heritage, diverse attractions, and growing tourism potential.
VJSC Co., Ltd. Director Nguyen Tien Bach presented Sri Lanka tourism products tailored for the Vietnamese market, focusing on customised travel experiences and emerging opportunities for Vietnamese travellers.
A key segment featured an interactive talk show with Pham Hoang Hung of Vietravel and travel blogger Le Viet Vinh (Vinh Gau), discussing travel trends and Sri Lanka’s appeal as a destination.
Nguyen Chi Duc, International Sales Director of VietJet Air, outlined the Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo route and the airline’s operational plans for the new service.
The event was attended by more than 60 travel companies in Ho Chi Minh City, along with representatives from Sri Lanka’s tourism industry including Mahen Kariyawasan of Andrews Travel Company and Chamil Udawatte of Hayleys Travels.
Participants received gift packs from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, including Ceylon Tea and promotional materials showcasing the island’s tourism offerings.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Vietnamese travel partners, airlines, and tourism stakeholders to promote Sri Lanka as a preferred destination and strengthen tourism exchanges, people to people connectivity, and economic cooperation between the two countries.
