Eric Dusingizimana breaks world cricket batting record

Rwandan international cricket captain Eric Dusingizimana has set a new world record after batting for 51 hours in an indoor stadium in Kigali.

Dusingizimana, 29, has batted since Wednesday and broken the previous record set by India’s Virag Male. Male has batted for 50 hours.

Bowlers who participated in the event included former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, former UK Secretary of State for International Development Andrew Mitchell, and British High Commissioner to Rwanda, William Gelling.

Other bowlers included Sports and Culture minister Julienne Uwacu, Miss Rwanda Jolly Mutesi, as well as Amavubi assistant coach, Jimmy Mulisa.

After setting the new record Dusingizimana said, “I thank all the people who have been around to see history being made in Rwanda, all bowlers, the cricket fraternity, friends and well-wishers for being there and supporting me. I was inspired to do this in order to raise money to build a good cricket ground with top level facilities.”
