The Sri Lanka Women’s cricket team secured a dominant nine-wicket victory over the United Arab Emirates in the second Group B match of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium today (29).
Having won the toss and elected to field first, Sri Lanka put the UAE batters under intense pressure, restricting them to just 79 runs in 19.5 overs.
Captain Esha Oza top-scored for the UAE with 18 runs.
Making her T20 debut, bowler Chetana Vimukthi delivered an impressive spell, taking three wickets for 16 runs, while Mithali Ayodhya claimed three wickets for 14 runs.
Sugandika Kumari also picked up two wickets.
Chasing an easy target of 80 runs, Sri Lanka reached the winning total in just 7.5 overs with the loss of only one wicket.
Captain Chamari Athapaththu spearheaded the chase with an unbeaten aggressive 48 runs off 25 balls, featuring seven boundaries and two sixes, while Imesha Dulani contributed 25 runs.
