The government is preparing to reinstate several high ranking military officials who were subjected to political vengeance and sent on compulsory leave following the 2010 Presidential election.

A senior government spokesperson stated that a special cabinet subcommittee is appointed under the chairmanship of Minister Wijedasa Rajapakse.

Ministers Rajitha Senarathna, Ravi Karunanayaka, Ranjith Madduma Bandara and Thalatha Athukorala are the other members of the subcommittee.

Traditionally the recommendations put forward by the subcommittee must be approved by the cabinet.

According to government sources there are around 40 army officers sent on compulsory leave.
