Sand barriers have been placed at Nuwara Wewa in Anuradhapura to reduce the massive bank erosion of the tank.
The bank erosion and run off threat are at the highest near the main Sorowwa along a 50 meter long stripe.
The reconstruction process of the erosion control barrier was suspended due to excessive showers last week.
The four spill gates of Nuwara Wewa are opened now releasing 1300 cube feet of torrent per second.
