Secretary of the Health Ministry, BJS Gunathilaka stated that a drug shortage could be expected as the State Pharmaceutical Corporation did not receive the monetary allocations to purchase drugs in time.

At the same time, a new chairman has not yet been appointed after its previous chairman resigned from office.

However, the secretary of the ministry, BJS Gunathilaka stated that he instructed an additional secretary to take action in that regard.

GMOA states that a presidential commission should be appointed to probe the corruption and irregularities committed in the health sector during the last three years.

It further charges that a misappropriation of 70 million rupees has been committed behind a tender to purchase pharmaceuticals.
