New Commission Investigating Bribery or Corruption commence duties

The commission appointed by the president to investigate into fraud and corruption in state institutions which had allegedly taken place from January 14th 2015 to 31st December 2018 reconvened yesterday.

Concerns were drawn to 48 complaints out of which 2 complaints have been taken up for preliminary investigations.

The preliminary investigations are to be conducted on a complaint made by minister Patali Champika Ranawaka on financial misappropriation pertaining to purchasing additional electricity on short term basis for the establishment of a stable electricity supply in the country and a complaint lodged by the institutions and public property protection organization.

According to the complaint made by the organization the preliminary investigations are to be conducted on a misappropriation of state funds pertaining to the director position of the Sri Jayewardenepura general hospital.

In addition, it was decided during the meeting held upon reconvening of the commission to obtain the support of police officers for the investigation.

Accordingly, it has been reported that the IGP has been informed of deploying a team of officers from the CID led by an ASP.

The presidents commission is to reconvene on the 18th of February once again and the hearing of evidences pertaining to the two complaints which are investigated on is to take place on the 28th of this month.
